Carcharodontosaurus was one of the largest predatory dinosaurs of the mid-Cretaceous, rivaling even Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus in size. Known from North Africa, it possessed massive jaws lined with blade-like teeth designed to slice through flesh much like a great white shark, hence its name “shark-toothed lizard.” This carnivore was a powerful, fast-moving hunter built for pursuit rather than ambush, with long legs, a deep skull, and a heightened ability to tear, bleed, and exhaust its prey.

Active Time: Opportunistic Apex. Carcharodontosaurus are most active during the cooler hours of dawn and dusk. They may move at night when driven by hunger, but typically rest during peak daytime heat.

The Carcharodontosaurus is a creature ruled by ritual instinct rather than mindless ferocity. As described in paleontological records, it was a pursuit hunter, a titan born for long chases, relentless pressure, and bleeding its prey dry rather than striking clean killing blows. These instincts manifest as behavioral laws etched into the predator’s very bones. A Carcharodontosaurus is drawn toward large herbivores not only for sustenance but to reenact the ancient patterns of dominance its lineage perfected across the Cretaceous plains. Its senses sharpen around hadrosaurs and spined sauropods, urging it to pursue them, tail their movements, and strike once exhaustion sets in.

Despite its size, it is not reckless. This species carries a deep-rooted aversion to rival apex carnivores; the scent of Carcharodontosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus, and Giganotosaurus ignites a territorial memory that warns it to avoid a direct confrontation unless absolutely necessary. To consume their flesh is to defy an ancestral taboo, one tied to bloodlines and dominance hierarchies carved over millennia. Socially, most individuals prefer the heat of solitude, where instinct is clearest, and the hunt is pure. Yet when it commits to an objective, be it pursuit, intimidation, or guarding a chosen hunting ground, it becomes single-minded and unstoppable, channeling the desert-born resolve of its ancestors.

These behaviors define not only how the Carcharodontosaurus hunts but how it must be played, shaping the rituals, instincts, and choices that govern its every encounter.

Mandatory Traits

Flamebound Pursuit

The sight of Parasaurolophus, Iguanodon, Barsboldia, or Amargasaurus awakens an ancestral hunger within you. You must either pursue, stalk, or actively reposition to maintain awareness of that target until it leaves your detection range or you choose to break pursuit for survival.

Stampede of the Scorched Titan

A charging, unstoppable advance fueled by ancient fury. A Charge Attack that damages everything in your line of sight, echoing the thunderous tremors once carried across desert plains when this giant broke into full pursuit.

If an enemy crosses directly through your forward line of sight at close-to-mid range, you must perform a decisive forward action: advancing, mock-charging, or fully committing to an intercept. A Carcharodontosaurus does not hesitate when a path opens.

Ghost of the Scorched Plain

A solitary hunter is a sharper hunter. When traveling alone, you must behave as a stalking predator, avoiding unnecessary noise, circling prey, and keeping distance from other carnivores. Grouping is allowed, but you must break away if the hunt loses subtlety.

Tyrantbreaker’s Instinct

Carcharodontosaurus is conditioned to challenge giants, not flee them. When within 30 meters of Tyrannosaurs, Hadrosaurs, or Sauropods, you must adopt a dominant posture. This can be done either by vocalizing, shadowing their movements, or committing to a short intimidation approach unless severely injured.

Optional Traits

Life Line

When a target is too powerful to kill alone, the Carcharodontosaurus may issue a single 1-call to summon ungrouped Carchars for temporary cooperation in bringing down an Apex herbivore. The alliance lasts only for the hunt, then dissolves.

1 Foot, 2 Feet, Your Feet, Blood!

Carcharodontosaurus will hunt down any Giganotosaurus in the POI before attempting to hunt anything else. The Carcharodontosaurus will be laser-focused on these bipedal Titans, never allowing them to leave its sight once spotted, and will not sleep nor eat until the Giganotosaurus has fallen.

Failure to pursue and fell a Giganotosaurus will cause the Carcharodontosaurus to starve itself until it starts taking damage, then it will only attempt hunts on critters until it regains its confidence to fight larger prey.

Thy Enemy, be thy Friend

If a solo Carch cannot find a mate or companion, it may group with a lone Acro, but only if they spar. A contest of leadership and dominance will be initiated until the player reaches 50 or 25% health. Player’s discretion advised. Carch cannot also maintain Flamekin bonds when grouped with an Acro.
